my film work acts as a vessel for me to express frustrations, face fears, and articulate the emotional reactions that i experience on a daily basis surrounding my relationships and all other external forces in my life. i do this to self-reflect, while also compensating for the communication and articulation skills that i feel i lack in the real world, but can control within the digital world.
through film, i replay the conversations and conflicts that arise from external forces in my life, internalize them, and re-externalize them; creating a distortion of the reality that was created by my own interpretation.
in my work, i emphasize the importance of colour and how the connotations of different colours influence my emotional interpretation of an event; the colours that i associate with an event have the power to completely alter my perspective.
the majority of my work lacks authentic dialogue and conversation, creating a surrealist environment, reflective of how each work is a manifestation of my perception of the world, rather than reality. by using audio techniques such as voiceover, isolated dialogue, or inauthentic dialogue between characters, i am able to translate my mental playback of an event more effectively, making it distinguishable from real events and interactions.
my work seeks to answer questions about the people i am surrounded by as well as myself; how does identity form into what it is? how do others interpret one's identity? to what extent can one change one's perception of personal identity?
